LI121 Linux System and Network Administration I
This course presents the daily use of a Linux machine. During the training attendants will install Linux on a machine using a DVD/CD installation. The course also expands the knowledge of the underpinning principles of Unix and Linux. This course is part of a program for certification at the Junior level Linux Professional LPIC1 exams of the LPI and Linux+ certification of Comptia.
Audience
Users and Administrators of Linux systems, that want to certify. People that do not need to certify but want to gather an in-depth basic knowledge of Linux.
Topics
In this course the following topics are presented:
- Installing Linux from CD.
- Configuration of a stand-alone Linux machine: Install / update software, network, user accounts, printers.
- The Linux command line (BASH Shell). Wildcards / aliases / completions.
- Many basic commands.
- File protection bits in Linux.
- Input and output redirection.
- Linux text filters. Regular expressions.
- Child and parent prcess relation.
- Linux process management.
- Editing files with the vi editor.
- Finding documentation. / Lay-out of the Linux file system.
- Installing additional software with
- RPM / zypper / APT suite.
- Using the GUI / X Window system fundamentals.
- Mounting external devices.
- File system internals and maintenance.
- Virtualization in Linux Xen, Qemu and KVM
- Writing shell scripts.
Format
A 5-day instructor lead training with a presentation by an experienced Linux instructor. Each subject is be followed by a lab session where the knowledge is used in practice.
Prerequisites
Basic computer skills. Knowledge of the use of a graphical operating system is helpful, but not necessary. Knowledge of the basic components of a computer such as internal memory, disk drives, keyboard and mouse.
